Broadcasters are required to file license renewal applications every eight years. The public is encouraged to bring concerns about a station's renewal to the Commission's attention through an informal or formal objection. Each station is required to broadcast announcements giving the date its license will expire, the date a renewal application must be filed, and the date formal petitions against it must be filed.
